“THE BEAUTIFULLY SHAPED STONE WASHED UP BY THE SEA, IS A SYMBOL OF CONTINUITY, A SILENT IMAGE OF OUR DESIRE FOR SURVIVAL, PEACE AND SECURITY.”

I AM A contemporary abstract painter, printmaker and mixed media artist inspired by the rocks and rugged coastline near MY home in Cornwall, england

I definitely found my true home when I moved to Cornwall.

I love to walk the coast path, but especially to explore the rocks and pebbles around the many coves and beaches I come across. I can’t head home again without the odd pebble finding its way into my pocket.

I can usually be found bent over the rocks taking endless photos… the details of the colours, marks and textures, and the found compositions of the natural folds and strata that catch my eye.

It is these photos that inform my work back in the studio. I use acrylics and mixed media, adding pastes and gels to give texture which are covered in layer upon layer of paint and then sanded back and scratched into to reveal previous layers with unexpected results. I sometimes add collage papers which I’ve mono-printed myself, with rock-like textures and repeat patterns.
